During this time, I won AwardSchool (an internationally recognised advertising industry copywriting + design program), and subsequently moved from Tasmania to Sydney to work at Clemenger BBDO and complete uni at UNSW COFA. I worked as an artist’s model at the Julian Ashton School of Art and for various well-known Australian artists (such as Rex Dupain), and as a dancer. I then worked in art and book PR, and as an art critic, while I finished post-grad training as an editor. I went on to work in-house in culture and lifestyle journalism – travel, art, fashion, style, celebrities – for various magazines (Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Belle, House & Garden, Marie Claire, Cleo), newspapers (The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, Daily Telegraph) and as an illustrated books editor for publishing houses (Random House, Harper Collins, Murdoch Books). I then went freelance as an an editor, interiors and fashion stylist, and ghostwriter, and was appointed the society columnist for the Sun Herald – my weekly column had a 1 million+ readership, and I flew a little too close to the dazzling flame (sometimes ending up in the gossip columns myself). I moved from Sydney back to Tasmania to get some breathing space, and became an award-winning curator, creative director and communications advisor. Today I am an advisor, creative consultant, writer and artist. I created my company to deliver my unique brand/identity philosophy and process for clients around the world. Separate to my 30 years as a professional commercial writer, I write mystery fiction and essays; my work has been published (such as this and this) and has received commendations in national writing awards. I was on the board of Island Magazine, and have appeared on panels for literary festivals. I live on the river in Hobart with my family. I’m autistic and a member of Mensa.
