I am a writer, artist and advisor.
I have university degrees in art theory, curatorial practice and anthropology. Towards the end of uni I won AwardSchool (an advertising industry copywriting + design award), and moved from Tasmania to Sydney to work at Clemenger and complete uni at COFA. I worked as an artist’s model at the Julian Ashton School of Art and for various well-known Australian artists (such as Rex Dupain), and as a dancer. I considered becoming an art critic…
But then I remembered how much I had loved magazines and Tintin as a child, and so I did post-grad training as an editor and journalist, and went on to work for a decade in lifestyle journalism – fashion, style, celebrities and parties! – in-house at magazines (Cleo, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Dolly, Cosmo), newspapers (The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald) and then as an illustrated/culture books editor for publishing houses (Random House, Harper Collins, Murdoch Books).
I then spent another decade working freelance as an an editor, interiors and fashion stylist, ghostwriter, and was appointed the society columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald – my weekly column had a 1 million+ readership, and I flew a little too close to the dazzling flame (sometimes ending up in the gossip columns myself). I moved from Sydney back to Tasmania to get some breathing space, and became an award-winning advertising creative – coming full circle.
Today I am an advisor and creative director, and I created my company to deliver my unique brand/identity philosophy and process for clients around the world.
I write mystery and crime, and my work has been published in Island Magazine (such as this and this) and has received commendations in national writing awards.
I am ‘2e’ – twice exceptional.
